The East Mills High School Robotics Team recently competed in the FTC Robotics Competition at Corning High School on Saturday, January 7th.  Team members included Kendal McKnew, Daisy Knight, Matt Glockel, Cross Sweet, Madison Sayers, Delaney Hansen, Wyatt Franks, Thomas Anderson and Wes Bedsole and Coach Joe Wortman.

The team has been building and designing the robot for the last several months to compete in this competition. The competition itself is sponsored by Mid-American Energy, US First, Rockwel-Collins and Qualcom. The competition involves challenges that the robot must complete in order to earn points. Challenges include lighting up beacons, placing balls in strategic areas and parking the robot in designated zones. The East Mills team placed 12th out of 16 teams during the final day. Unfortunately, due to our slow start and missing one competition due to weather, we finished the season in 16th place overall.

The team would like to thank the sponsors for their support and for helping out with the costs of building and designing the robot, sponsors included: Sayers Auctions, John and Cindy Sayers, Hansen Farms, The E-Stop, Emerson Automotive, Robert and Tammy McGrew, SW Iowa Primitives, Lori’s Hair Corner, and Kenny Kester.

Great job and congratulations to Mr. Wortman and the team for all their hard work and dedication for competing in this year’s competition.
